The Palmerston North Safe City Trust (Safecity) – We are a registered charitable trust established in 2005 out of the SafeCity Group which was a subcommittee of the Palmerston North Safer Community Council that originally established in June 1997. The Palmerston North Safer Community Council was dis-established in 2005 with the advent of Safety Advisory Boards throughout New Zealand.
SafeCity‘s focus is the safety and sense of safety for Palmerston North Residents and Visitors when socialising in the Palmerston North Square & CBD on Thursday, Friday and Saturday Nights. Night time, alcohol and lots of young people socialising make for a high risk cocktale that all communities are faced with. As a young people’s and student city our city recognises our young people must be able to have fun socialising while at the same time do so as safely as possible.
We are committed to the reduction of alcohol related harm through the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and providing a constant presence of authority in the most at risk situations.
We enjoy partnerships in one of the most caring communities in New Zealand through the the collaborative efforts of a wide number of community and government agencies and organisations.
